General Plugin Functionality

What does Sitemap Manager do?
Sitemap Manager lets you control which URLs appear in your XML sitemap, regardless of your SEO plugin. You can exclude specific posts, pages, or taxonomies or add custom URLs not found in WordPress. If you have pages that are built outside of WordPress, you can also add those to your sitemap.
Will Sitemap Manager work with my SEO plugin?
Yes. Sitemap Manager supports Yoast, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress, and the default WordPress sitemap.
Can I exclude a specific post from the sitemap?
Yes. Use the checkbox in the Sitemap tab to exclude individual posts.
Can I exclude entire categories or tags?
Yes. Use the taxonomy exclusion panel to exclude entire taxonomies like categories or tags.
Will removing a URL from the sitemap unpublish it?
No. Excluding a URL from your sitemap does not affect its visibility on your website.
Why do some URLs show as grayed out?
If your site exceeds 100 URLs and you don’t have a license, only the first 100 are editable.
How do I include a custom post type in the sitemap?
Custom post types are automatically detected and included. Use the dropdown filter to select and manage them.
I created a post, but it’s not showing in the Sitemap Manager table. Why?
Make sure the post is published and public. Drafts, private posts, and certain post types may be hidden by default.
What does the “See Page” column do?
It provides a quick link to view the published page on your site.

Technical Behavior

Will this regenerate my sitemap automatically?
The plugin modifies your sitemap behavior on the fly. It doesn’t create a separate static file.
Where is the sitemap file located?
It depends on your SEO plugin. Sitemap Manager modifies their output dynamically rather than creating its own sitemap.xml file.
Does the plugin work with multilingual plugins like WPML or Polylang?
Yes, but behavior may vary. Each language version will be listed as a separate URL.
What happens if I uninstall the plugin?
Your sitemap will revert to its default behavior no exclusions or additions will remain.
Will it slow down my site?
No. The plugin uses efficient database queries and does not impact front-end load times.
Can I bulk exclude multiple URLs at once?
Yes. Use the bulk action dropdown to exclude or include multiple URLs at a time.
Can I search for URLs by title?
Yes. Use the search field at the top of the Sitemap tab. This will enable you to search through all the titles in your sitemap.
Does the plugin work with page builders like Elementor or Beaver Builder?
Yes. The plugin works independently of your page builder.
I excluded a URL but it's still in the sitemap. Why?
Check your cache (both site and server level). Sitemaps may be cached by your SEO plugin or CDN.
Can I reorder the sitemap entries?
No. Sitemap entries are sorted by publication date or relevance per SEO plugin behavior.

Licensing & PLK

Does Sitemap Manager require a license?
For sites with 100 URLs or fewer, Sitemap Manager does not require a license. Sites with more than 100 URLs require a license. Licensing is managed through Plugin Licensing Kit (PLK).
How much does a license cost?
Licenses start at $19 per year (for sites with 500 or fewer URLs). Larger sites (500+ URLs) have licenses at $29 per year. Pricing can change at any time.
How do I activate my license?
Go to the Settings tab and follow the link to license your plugin through PLK.
Where do I get a license key?
License keys are issued using the Plugin Licensing Kit at https://pluginlicensingkit.com/dashboard.php
What happens if I don’t activate a license?
The plugin will continue working for the first 100 URLs of your sitemap. Beyond that, exclusion controls are locked until licensed.
Is my license valid across multiple sites?
No. Each license is valid for a single domain.
Will I lose my configuration if I activate a license later?
No. Your settings are preserved and become editable once the license is activated.
How do I upgrade my license if my site grows?
Enter a support query in the support form at https://www.96monkeys.com/wordpress-plugins/sitemap-manager-support/
Can I deactivate or transfer my license?
Not yet. This feature is planned for a future release via PLK.
What if I lose my license key?
All of your licenses can be retrieved from the Plugin Licensing Kit (PLK). Go to https://pluginlicensingkit.com/dashboard.php and all your active licenses will be available.
What is Plugin Licensing Kit (PLK)?
PLK is a system that manages licensing for independent developers. It provides a way for developers to focus on what they are passionate about and leaves the licensing management to someone else. You can learn more at https://pluginlicensingkit.com/default.php
What updates do I get when I license Sitemap Manager?
You get all the updates that occur during your subscription period.

Compatibility and Conflicts

Is Sitemap Manager compatible with caching plugins?
Yes. However, you may need to clear your cache after changes for them to take effect.
Does it work with custom SEO setups?
Yes. Sitemap Manager does not require a specific SEO plugin.
What if I’m using a headless WordPress setup?
Sitemap Manager assumes a standard WP environment. Advanced setups may require customization.
Can I use this plugin on multisite?
Yes. Each site in the network must manage its own sitemap settings and license.
Are WooCommerce product pages supported?
Yes. Products are treated as a custom post type and are fully supported.
Is it compatible with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF)?
Yes. It works independently of your field structure.
Will it break my existing sitemap schema or XML structure?
No. Sitemap Manager respects the format expected by Google and SEO tools.
Will this plugin work if I disable my SEO plugin?
Yes, but only if WordPress core or another plugin is generating a sitemap. Sitemap Manager doesn’t generate its own file.

Advanced Use Cases

Can I use this for temporary exclusions (e.g., for a campaign)?
Yes. You can toggle URLs on or off at any time.
Can I programmatically exclude URLs via code?
Yes. Use the ysmap_is_url_excluded filter hook for custom logic.
Is there an export/import option for settings?
No.
Does the plugin support REST API calls?
Not currently, but future versions may support REST endpoints.
Can I track sitemap submissions to Google from within the plugin?
No. Use Google Search Console to track sitemap indexing.

Sitemap Strategy & Best Practices

Should I exclude thank-you pages from my sitemap?
Yes, typically. Pages like thank-you or confirmation screens are low-value and shouldn’t be indexed.
Should I include login pages or utility URLs?
No. These should not be indexed and should be excluded from your sitemap.
What types of pages should I add manually?
Pages that live outside of WordPress (e.g., static tools, microsites, or landing pages hosted elsewhere).
Can I use Sitemap Manager to include my blog archive?
Yes, as long as it has a fixed URL you can manually add.
Does excluding a page from the sitemap de-index it?
No. Use a noindex meta tag if you want to prevent Google from indexing a page.
Does Google require a sitemap to index my site?
No, but sitemaps help search engines discover content more efficiently.

SEO Ramifications

Will removing a page from the sitemap improve SEO?
Possibly. Excluding thin, duplicate, or low-value pages can improve crawl efficiency and focus indexing on important content.
Is the sitemap important from an SEO perspective?
Yes, it's important because it's a way for the site to provide search engines with a bulk delivery of all URLs. The problem is that sitemap often include all published URLs and not just the ones that help. For example, thank-you pages and other campaign endpoints are not very useful to have on the sitemap becasue you really don't want people entring there.
